Of God

Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

What strikes out to me is that if we are of God we will hear His words and believe them.
We can overcomplicate hearing God sometimes, yes there are answers that take longer because of the waiting, molding and building season but God says what He needs to say. And those who are of Him, listen. Listening is a skill and not just a one time act. Listening means patient in seeking, and waiting on God. It means watching and lingering for God’s words through prayer, petition, fasting and actively sitting at His feet and cutting out the “noise”. Listening is purposeful and meaningful. So where we’ve allowed the quickness of anxious thoughts to dictate our path and way of thinking let us repent. That quick anxious dread that comes over you is not of God. Simple. When we listen to it we are feeding into the father of lies. When we seek the easy way out we are numbing ourselves to sin.

Let us learn to be patient and trusting because it is way worth it to be a child of God in waiting than to be a slave to the father of lies.

Heavenly Father help us to be like litte children who sit at your feet patiently listening to the words that come from your mouth, your truth.
Help us not to be quick to dwell in anxiety and fearful thoughts because they stem from pride and rooted in a fat lie. We repent.
We are turning back to you and your calming, still voice. Let us wait and listen to you. Your sheep know your voice.
